Allah Taala takes to Madinah Shareef only those whom He wishes to take when He wishes to do so. Sometimes the person with great love for Nabi (Salallahu alayhi wasalam) may never have the opportunity of visiting Madinah Shareef. My Shaikh, Hadhrat Moulana Yunus Patel (r.a.), used to say that a person may be far away from Madinah Shareef but if he has the sunnah of Nabi (Salallahu alayhi wasalam) in his life then he is actually very close, yet another could be standing at the Raudah Mubarak and still be far away from Nabi (Salallahu alayhi wasalam) due to not inculcating the sunnah of Nabi (Salallahu alayhi wasalam) in his life.

When one speaks of the beauty of Madinah Shareef, what is this actually referring to? My Shaikh, Hadhrat Moulana Yunus Patel (r.a.) mentioned that the beautiful mornings refer to the scores of people entering the precincts of the Haram Shareef for the Tahajjud Salaat, making dua unto Allah Taala. There are many who remain in the Haram till sunrise to perform Ishraaq Salaat and all the while there is salawaat of the believer’s permeating the precincts of the Haram. Similarly the beauty of the evenings of Madinah Shareef refer to the Ibaadah that is witnessed by those lovers of Allah Taala and Nabi (Salallahu alayhi wasalam) who remain in the haram busy in zikrullah, durood and salaam, Quraan Shareef Tilaawat etc.

Such is the sukoon of Madinah Shareef that just as one steps of the plane in Madinah Shareef he is engulfed by the overwhelming sukoon of the place that is generated from the noor of the ibaadat of Nabi (Salallahu alayhi wasalam) and Sahaba (R.A.).

It is important that one’s experience should be one of spirituality and not a simple touring experience. The heart and mind needs to be tuned in to what is the reality of the place that he is being afforded the opportunity of visiting. The thought process should be “I am in the city of Nabi (Salallahu alayhi wasalam) and my actions should be adjusted accordingly.” Regardless of whom we are speaking to or inter-acting with, we should be guarded against our tongues. We don’t know who that person could be. It is possible that this person’s lineage could lead to a great Sahabi or this could be a test from Allah Taala.

We should take our queue from Madinah Shareef, the place from where deen spread. This is our purpose. We need to introspect and really analyse at what point do we cut off and embrace our responsibility that is to immerse ourselves in the work of deen.

For the love of Madinah Munawarrah
